MARIAH CAREY REVIEW - I'LL BE LOVIN' U LONG TIME HALT! Do not panic! Yes, this is a Mariah review, but I can confirm that this is officially a warble-free zone. I repeat: A warble-free zone. You may proceed without the fear of a warbling, vocal-scaling ambush. And I know this because after much deliberating, I decided that, to write this review, I did actually need to listen to Mariah Carey’s new single.
You see, I’ll be honest: with ‘I’ll Be Lovin’ U Long Time’ for a title, I wondered if it was even necessary to hear the R&B princess’ latest offering. I mean, grammatically, it makes me want to vomit, and, bearing in mind this is the sickly-sweet Ms Carey we’re talking about, I figured that this vomiting sensation was probably a good indication of how the single would make me feel. But I was wrong…
…Okay, when I say ‘wrong’, I don’t mean that it isn’t terribly cheesy (it is), or that it doesn’t sound like something from 1997 (it does), but that it is not a bad pop song. Well, minus the guy (T.I) rapping about “all your booty and your cutey." In the same way that her recent single, ‘Touch My Body’, saw a slick, well-crafted approach to R&B, this does much the same. This song sounds summery, it sounds carefree… and the lack of Mariah’s oh-so-famous ’scales’ means that it is very sing-a-long-able.
Basically, as long as you don’t listen to the lyrics, it is pretty inoffensive and very catchy; the only thing I haven’t quite figured out yet is just how you’re supposed to dance to it. Trust me, I’m working on that.
So, I guess that, in light of Mariah’s toned down vocal-scaling stunts, it is only fair I forgive her those (terrible) grammatical inaccuracies and pronounce that: Mariah, when it comes to your songs, I have no furhter use for the sick bag by my side. * CD Released: September 1st *Please note: I wrote this line before I watched the video

NEW MC ALBUM "LOVE SONGS" JAN 2009?!From Keith Caulfield's Ask Billboard this week: Hi Keith, I have a few questions for you. Is Sony Music ever going to release a box set for Mariah Carey? Are they going to release a collection of all her videos on DVD when she was on their label?
The reason I am asking is that two of my favorite B-side songs she released on CD single are "Slipping Away" and "Do You Think of Me" and (neither) are available on any mainstream Carey album. Thanks for reading! Jeff Savage, Salisbury, Md.
I reached out to Sony Legacy (the company's catalog division) and, at least in terms of what's on their upcoming release schedule, there isn't a Mariah Carey box set coming soon.
However, there is a "Love Songs" compilation album from the diva scheduled for release on Jan. 20, 2009. (Just in time for Valentine's Day!)
We're sure the set will feature many of Carey's best known hits, since many of them deal with relationships and love. The "Love Songs" series has been around a number of years now and usually carry a list price of $11.98.
Perhaps some of Carey's lesser-known gems (and b-sides) might make this album? Sure, it's doubtful, but you never know. And, since the album will be released Sony, it will likely only include her work that she did while on Columbia Records through 2000, before she left the label.

MARIAH CAREY'S SCREAM STARTLED 'TENNESSEE' CO STAR Mariah Carey gets a lot of grief over being a bad actress — “Glitter,” anyone? — but she was believable enough to fool her “husband.”
Lance Reddick — who’s known for his work on “The Wire” and “Lost” and will be a FBI agent on J.J. Abrams’ upcoming television show “Fringe”– was cast late in the game for the upcoming movie “Tennessee” (”Honestly, they were going to go with a bigger name,” Reddick said, “but they lost that someone”). So by the time he was signed up as Carey’s character’s husband Frank, “I had less than a week before we started shooting,” Reddick said.
On his first day on set, he was slated to shoot a scene where Frank menances his wife Krystal, because she didn’t buy the kind of beer he wanted for his card game. Krystal’s a waitress who dreams of being a songwriter (at least the latter part is something Mariah could relate to). But she’s married to a state trooper who believes that since he pays the bills, she better do what he wants.
“So on my first day, the first time I ever meet her, I have to go in cold and grab her arm and throw her against the wall,” Reddick said. And while he was holding her by the neck, she screamed. Considering her multi-octave range, “I wouldn’t even want to begin to imitate how that sounded,” he said.
“I thought I hurt her,” he added, “so I stopped. I said, ‘Are you OK?’ And she said, ‘Hello? I’m acting.’”
Reddick was astonished. After that first take, they did the scene from start to finish a couple more times to get different angles, but since that moment, he’s had a newfound respect for her.
“She was so committed to being a great actress,” he said. “And she was.”

IT’S TIME TO MIGRATE By January 2008, most music insiders, including those from Billboard magazine, referred to Mariah’s new project as the most anticipated album of the year. Among the potential hits, early reports confirmed the existence of a hip-hop influenced club banger titled “Migrate,” which wisely narrated an exciting Mariah’s night out in the city.
The song, produced by Mariah Carey and Danjahandz, used the term “Migrate,” which was part of Mariah’s everyday saying, a “mariahism” suggested by friends to be used on this song. Popular hip-hop act T-Pain joined Mariah for the track. Mariah unveiled “Migrate” during the New Year's Eve 2008 party at TAO in Las Vegas, Nevada where she closed the night playing the new track that immediately created expectation for the new album.
“Migrate” was also one of the songs presented to music insiders during the listening party that took place in January. From that point, rumors about the commercial release of the club banger arose. Mariah’s fan site Mariah Daily Journal announced on January 11 that Mariah initially considered “Migrate” as the possible first single choice. However, Island Def Jam and Mariah chose “Touch My Body” instead. “Migrate” officially debuted during her Saturday Night Live appearance in mid March. The overwhelming public response was followed by a series of rave reviews. Slant magazine referred to “Migrate” as “the album's most shocking track,” adding that “she wanted to begin her album with a reminder--to fans, to rivals, to Tommy Mottola, to the ghost of Elvis--that, lo, these many years later, she's still got it.” Blender magazine also praised the track by claiming that it offers the “hardest beat [on the record].”
Mariah also opened the BET television special The Relativity of Mariah with a killer performance of the song. Moreover, the label confirmed that “Migrate” was indeed the album’s opener. The up-tempo track soon proved its commercial appeal. When E=MC² was made available through iTunes, the digital sales of “Migrate” surpassed those of any other song included on the new album, except “Touch My Body.” The song soon entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number ninety-two. Rumors about the song becoming the second single vanished after Mariah confirmed that she would release a ballad instead. Nonetheless, during an interview for Radio 1 in the UK, she claimed, “I definitely want to put it out.” After the somehow disappointing performance of the album’s second single, “Bye Bye,” the release of “I’ll Be Lovin’ U Long Time” certainly surprised many who believed “Migrate” would finally get its chance.
A recent survey held among members of Mariah Hero.com confirmed that Mariah’s fan base believes “Migrate” still has enormous potential. Rcki, one of the site’s members, claims that the track “equipped all the elements of a no 1 single should have.” Drelroi also believes the track “should have been released after ‘Touch My Body.’” Another member, Make-it-happen, states that “Migrate” would “bring back momentum for this album. It screams ‘hit’ and it should be marketed as a hit.” In fact, most fans, like Mimi-My-Angel, can’t understand why “Migrate” hasn’t been released as a single yet.
At this moment, Mariah’s management has taken other songs into consideration; “Side Effects,” “I’m That Chick,” and “I Stay in Love” have been mentioned. “I Stay In Love” has received mostly harsh reviews by critics who either ignore it or call it “uninspired” for the most part. Critic Rich Juzwiak stated that “I Stay In Love,” “rewrites of her relevance-reigniting megahit, ‘We Belong Together.’” Juzwiak also referred to the song as “the most soulless song Mariah's cut since…Glitter.” His opinion is shared by other critics and fans alike who perceive an evident resemblance to 2005’s “We Belong Together.”
On the other hand, “Side Effects” and “I’m That Chick” have been applauded by critics. “Side Effects” conveys a message of confidence and strength which embodies the concept of Emancipation and that ironically The Emancipation of Mimi lacked. “Side Effects” swiftly caught media attention; People magazine’s journalist Chuck Arnold expressed, “The highlight is ‘Side Effects,’ the CD's darkest and most personal track, which seems to allude to Carey's failed marriage to music exec Tommy Mottola.” Overall, “Side Effects” contrasts with the sweetness of E=MC²’s previous three singles and would expose another side of Mariah’s persona.
Meanwhile, “I’ll Be Lovin’ U Long Time” struggles to break into Billboard’s top fifty. Many fans still believe “Migrate” would improve E=MC²’s chart performance. Based on the song’s impressive history, one can easily assume that not taking advantage of the track’s potential would be a drawback; moreover, a wrongful single choice could bring disastrous consequences for the future of E=MC².

MARIAH WANTS TO HAVE A BABY? As she raised a glass of champagne at a party in their honor on August 9, Mariah Carey only had eyes for Nick Cannon. "We have never been so happy. He is my other half," she declared as she toasted her husband of four months at the bash at L.A. Reid's mansion in New York's Hamptons.
Since marrying on April 30 in the Bahamas, Mariah has been busy promoting her new album E=MC² - but that's not the only important project the 39-year-old singer is working on. "She really wants a baby," reveals a friend. A witness at the Hamptons party says the couple may already be trying. "They slipped away early in the night to the guesthouse where they were staying," says the source. "They couldn't keep their hands off each other."
For Mariah, it's a big change of heart. A few weeks before marrying, she confessed that she wasn't ready for a baby. "It's hard to have kids in this world," she admitted. "I don't think I could properly educate a child right now. Maybe in the future, but for now, I enjoy my dog Jack's company." But there could be one thing stopping Mariah and Nick, 27, from starting a family - her career. "She's so driven," the friend explains. "Work has always been her number-one priority." Dr. Joyce Brothers, who doesn't treat the singer, adds that this superstar diva might have some trouble putting a child's needs before her own. "The attention the baby will need will be difficult for Mariah," she tells In Touch. "But if she really wants it, she can make it work."
Mariah knows she's going to have to change for a child. "You have to take a backseat a little bit, and as someone in the public eye, you're not used to doing that," she admits. But friends of the couple are confident Mariah and Nick will make it work. Nick's pal Entertainment Tonight host Kevin Frazier, tells In Touch, "The timing couldn't be better. Nick would be a perfect father." Mariah couldn't agree more. "I couldn't imagine anybody that I've ever met being a better dad," she says.

MC: ‘I DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH FOOD' AS A KID Mariah Carey may be one of the most successful pop musicians of all time, but there was a time when she went to bed hungry. “I didn’t have the money to get… even really enough food,” she told Fashion Rocks magazine of her childhood.
Mariah, who was raised by a single mother, says the need for bare necessities helped drive her to stardom. The singer notched her 18th number one single with “Touch My Body” earlier this year, passing Elvis Presley’s tally.
“From the time I was little, I had such a huge desire, and such an enormous ambition,” she said. This year has been more than just successful on the recording end for Mariah. She wed boyfriend Nick Cannon in May, and she told the special edition of the best qualities about her new husband, is how he comforts her like her mom.
“When I was a kid there was an ice storm in the suburbs… We went to Manhattan to stay with a friend of my mom’s. There was nobody on the road. It was this moment that could’ve been scary for a kid, but she made it festive,” Mariah recounted. “That’s what Nick is like. He takes the hard part of a situation and makes it celebratory.”

MARIAH CAREY LIVES UP TO HER DIVA REPUTATION When she visited London earlier this year, Mariah Carey dismissed rumours she was a diva, insisting she was misunderstood. But the superstar's recent behaviour is doing little to dispel the stereotype after she was spotted being dried by two assistants following a dip in the Mediterranean.
The 38-year-old singer is enjoying a "second honeymoon" with new husband Nick Cannon, 27, in Capri after a belated wedding party in New York last weekend. After enjoying a dip in the open sea, a bikini-clad Mariah was helped onto her luxury yacht by some male assistants before she was greeted by a cosy, waiting towel.
As she was hoisted up the back of the boat, Mariah revealed her stunning bikini body after slimming down earlier this year to promote her latest album E=MC2. Wearing a flowery, string bikini, Mariah looked toned, but curved, and flashed a butterfly tattoo on her lower back.
After drying off, Mariah enjoyed some glasses of champagne with her toyboy husband of four months, before changing into a second one-piece swimsuit. It wasn't long before the couple were back in the water after getting a smaller speed boat to a rocky enclave, where they enjoyed a cuddle in the shade.
Mariah has been looking better than ever this year after embarking on a diet and fitness regime. The singer toned up by swimming in her private pool every day, and even though she's on holiday, Mariah has been continuing her fitness routine by swimming in the Med. Speaking of her keep fit plan, Mariah said: "What's great about working out in the pool is that the water acts as resistance, so you're actually exercising twice as hard without feeling it."
Mariah and rapper/actor Nick arrived in Capri - where the singer holidays every year - this week after celebrating their nuptials with a star-studded party in the Hamptons, New York on Saturday. Record boss Antonio "L.A." Reid hosted the couple's post-wedding party at his Sagaponack mansion. Among the guests were LL Cool J, Samuel L. Jackson and Gwyneth Paltrow.
The party was a chance for Mariah and Nick to celebrate their nuptials in the U.S. after a small, private ceremony in the singer's private estate in the Bahamas on April 30th. Their shock marriage came just six weeks after they started dating after Mariah cast Nick as her love interest in the video for her single Bye Bye.
Following the marriage, Mariah said: "We really do feel we are soulmates. I never felt a love like this was in the cards for me. My pastor Clarence Keaton flew in from New York. The whole wedding was really beautiful and sweet. Being there with loved ones under the sky ... it was a spiritual moment." (Daily Mail) |

MARIAH CAREY'S TOWEL ASSISTANCE Mariah Carey has been photographed being dried off by two assistants after she swam in the Mediterranean Sea. The "Touch My Body" singer, who has a reputation for being a diva, enjoyed a peaceful swim on her second honeymoon with husband Nick Cannon off the island of Capri.
As she emerged from the water, Mariah was quickly met by two assistants bearing towels, who then proceeded to ensure she was completely dry by rubbing her all over. A source said: "Mariah looked in absolute heaven as she was dried off. She just held out her arms to her side and let the assistants get rid of any water remaining on her body."
Mariah, 38, has previously revealed she likes being called a diva because it means she is successful. She said: "They throw that word around like it's a Frisbee! I grew up hearing it, because my mother is an opera singer. The actual definition is 'a talented female singer'. Definition two is 'a difficult woman who is successful', I believe. So I take it as a compliment."
Despite her reputation, Mariah insists she doesn't make enough demands. The 38-year-old star said: "You know what? I guess I am a diva in many ways! When it comes to certain things, yes, I can be difficult and a little bit rigid about what I want. Am I demanding? I don't think I'm demanding enough."

MARIAH CAREY ADMITS WHAT SHE DOES BEST Mariah Carey told me on Saturday night she does one thing very well. What is it? "Dance." What about singing? "Oh, that's business," she said with a laugh. The occasion was about the most elegant, laid-back event of the Hamptons season so far, and also the most private: a belated wedding party for Mariah and her husband, actor Nick Cannon, at the home of Island Def Jam chief L.A. Antonio Reid and his gracious, beautiful wife, Erica.
It's the only party I can ever remember attending at which swans - yes, large white swans - were rented for the night and placed in the host's beautiful pond. I didn't know you could rent a swan. They come with handlers, in case you want to know.
The Reids' lavish Bridgehampton spread is low-key, and so was the party, even though DJ Cassidy was playing old-school R&B in a simple makeshift party tent. I was talking to Mariah and Nick when the music got fired up, prompting Mariah to declare, "I'm going to dance up a storm. It's the one thing I do really well!"
The one thing? Her legions of fans might beg to differ. And Mariah did, indeed, dance to DJ Cassidy. She twirled and dipped and had a fine time. Meanwhile, the Reids' guests chowed down at various stations set up all over their backyard - on four different kinds of gourmet pizza, the best fried chicken and mac-and-cheese I've ever tasted and a selection of Greek treats.
Guests included her trusty manager, Benny Medina; plus Mary J. Blige with hubby, Kendu Isaacs; Samuel L. Jackson and wife, LaTonya Richardson; Russell Simmons; Gayle King; Jessica Seinfeld; Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa; opera great Kathleen Battle; producer-director Lee Daniels; Universal Music Chief Doug Morris; Kerzner Resorts' Jerry Inzerillo; and, oddly enough, Gwyneth Paltrow.
Paltrow had been advertised all week at another Hamptons event, with Madonna headlined to make an appearance. But Madonna never showed, natch, and Paltrow split her event for this one early in the evening. She wound up staying and having a great time, chatting with everyone. Her husband, Chris Martin, is on tour with Coldplay, promoting the group's Grammy-bound album, "Viva la Vida". Let me tell you: Paltrow could not be prouder of Martin's musical achievement. She lit up like a Christmas tree as we discussed the tracks.
But back to Mariah and Nick. They are very cute together. He's really in love with her - it's quite obvious - and very protective. Mariah, who was married once a long time ago to a record executive, seems almost shocked to get so much attention. Good for her! Good for both of them!
I did talk to Sam Jackson, by the way, about the tragic death earlier that day of his "Soul Men" co-star Bernie Mac. Sam said that everyone on the film knew Bernie had been ill but that he'd done better in recent weeks and everyone was pulling for him.
"It's a shock," he said. "Soul Men" still requires reshoots, which might not be so easy now. Dimension Films is scheduled to release it Nov. 14. And, no, the movie is not "cursed" as was suggested in some other outlets. (Fox 411)

GYWNETH PALTROW AND MARIAH CAREY PARTY IN THE HAMPTONSThose who went to the benefit for the Amaryllis Farm Equine Rescue at Steven Klein's Bridgehampton house on Saturday night in hopes of seeing "honorary chairperson" Madonna would have been disappointed. The closest thing to the pop icon was a massive screen showing the video of her 2006 W magazine photo shoot, in which she primped and posed as a Dietrich-esque equestrian/dominatrix. And there was a drag queen walking around in the same costume, which was a little surreal - a pastiche of a pastiche.
Meanwhile, the hosts in attendance - Gwyneth Paltrow and the photographer himself - were huddled away from the hoi polloi until they came out to the stables on Klein's property to introduce the evening's showstopper, a rehabilitated horse named Maximilian who pranced around like a ballerina to a Madonna song from "Evita".
Afterward, Paltrow and others headed to a party at L.A. Reid's Sagaponack pad for Mariah Carey and her new husband, Nick Cannon. For those who have been living under a rock, Mimi's emancipation ended in June when she married Cannon, a 27-year-old rapper and actor whom she'd been dating briefly. Napkins at the party said "Summer of Love" and though some have wondered whether the marriage would last longer than that, the couple's behavior on the dance floor suggested the relationship is still going very strong.
"They were all over each other," said one guest. "It was really cute."
Seen gadding about were LL Cool J, Samuel L. Jackson, Gayle King, Kelly Ripa and Star Jones, who arrived with what appeared to be a date. As another partygoer noted, "He looked kind of like Al Reynolds." (Women's Wear Daily | The Mariah Carey Archives) |

LAY, LADY, LAY Over the years, many have dismissed Mariah Carey as nothing more than a freakish vocal acrobat. Her melismatic runs commonly hit a dozen or more tones in a single syllable, and her range pierces the whistle register; few but dolphins can sing higher. Some sneered at her weakness for hot pants and halters in the 1990s; others called Carey a lightweight because of her kitschy passion for butterflies and Hello Kitty. (She has described herself as being "eternally twelve" innumerable times). Yet in fact, Mariah Carey is Long Island's answer to Dolly Parton, a woman whose bodacious body and over-the-top style have distracted many people from her rare and substantial talent.
By the time you read this, Carey's newest single will probably have inched her one notch closer to overtaking the Beatles' world record for the most number-one songs. (They had 20; this spring, she knocked Elvis Presley out of second place with "Touch My Body," her eighteenth.) At the age of 38, Mariah Carey is the best-selling female recording artist in history. She has written and produced more number-one songs than any other female composer or producer, and was the first mainstream artist to blend pop with R&B and hip-hop.
Carey's multiethnic background is often cited as a source of her eclectic sound and style. (She was raised by her mother, an opera singer of Irish heritage, and barely knew her father, an aeronautical engineer who was part African-American and Venezuelan). Less noted, but equally important, is her ambiguous class identification. As with most bling-besotted female singers, Carey's aspiration to G4 style seems an effort to make up for her bridge-and-tunnel background. Unlike some other strivers', though, her reaching seems optimistic, not angry. Carey's appeal, again like Parton's, owes much to her mirthful candor about the longing that drives her. "From the time I was little, I had such a huge desire, and such an enormous ambition, driven mainly by the fact that I didn't have the money to get the latest outfits, or even really enough food," she says. When describing her new love--after a courtship that lasted exactly one month, Carey was married in April to the 27-year-old actor and rapper Nick Cannon--she roots her remarks within a childhood memory: "When I was a kid there was an ice storm in the suburbs," she says. "We went to Manhattan to stay with a friend of my mom's. There was nobody on the road. It was this moment that could have been scary for a kid, but she made it festive. That's what Nick is like: He takes the hard part of a situation and makes it celebratory."
These days, Carey has much to celebrate. In addition to the success of her new album, E=MC², which debuted at number one, she won praise at the Tribeca Film Festival for her performance as a waitress in the independent movie Tennessee. Next, she'll play a social worker in a film adaptation of Sapphire's verse novel PUSH, then make a feature-length HBO musical adaptation of Merry Christmas, her 1994 holiday album--which is, by the way, the best-selling Christmas album...of all time. SANDLER TALKS ZOHAN & MC Adam Sandler, talking about his new film You Don't Mess with the Zohan with UK's The Press and Journal, mentioned Mariah in a recent interview:
"She was great, great girl. I met Mariah a long time ago on Saturday Night Live. Then, when we wrote in the original draft, we thought it was cool that the only thing that the Israelis and Palestinians could agree on was that Mariah Carey was hot. While on set, she worked hard and I got to listen to her new album. I was in the room with her deciding which should be the first single." (The Press | Journal UK | Mariah Daily Journal)

MC & NICK'S BIG SUMMER WEDDING PARTY? Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon may have kept their wedding plans secret, but now they are inviting all of their friends to a big summer wedding party in the Hamptons to celebrate their union. Page Six is reporting that Mariah Carey rented Stone Meadow Farm in East Hampton, L.I. for the small price of $125,000.
That kind of money gets them 10 bedrooms, 18,000 square feet, and 8 acres to play with. The party will reportedly be hosted by Def Jam chief L.A. Reid.
The kicker in the deal? If the Cannons really enjoy themselves, they have the option to buy the place, which is listed at $20 million. (whudat)

DAMIZZA WRITES AUTOBIOGRAPHY - INCLUDES RELATIONSHIP WITH MARIAH One of the music and radio industry's top producers and executives for the last 15 years, Damion Young is lifting the veil on what went on behind the scenes in the burgeoning, ongoing and, at times, recovering careers of just about every major recording star in his explosive new memoir, "Guilty By Association."
Fans will be enthrawed with Damizza's first-hand account of watching Eminem record "Hi My Name Is …" in Dr. Dre's home studio — and minutes later Dre taking Damizza aside, enlisting his friend's advice on "how to break the white boy.” Dre wasn't the only one tapping Damizza for his expertise: The young producer and radio wunderkind was hired by L.A.'s fledgling Power 106 hip-hop station to turn it into what became, during his tenure, arguablythe world's most influential music station.
In "Guilty By Association" readers will be treated to the behind-the-scenes stories of some of Mariah Carey's biggest hits — and her incredible comeback after the disastrous "Glitter" fiasco, orchestrated through her triumphant post-9/11 Super Bowl performance. And for the first time anywhere, Damizza finally goes public with the ups and down of the intense four-year personal relationship they shared and worked diligently to disguise from the world's press.
From Al Gore's insightful assessment of "Glitter" to Billy Bob Thorton's attempt to record an album under Damizza's direction, the landmark reunion of Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre on "Chronic 2001" and a nearly endless list of every imaginable celebrity who sought Damizza's help, "Guilty By Association" is a who's who diary of how our world of popular music has evolved, all told by one of the few people who was standing in the room at nearly every moment. But it's also more than a recollection of anecdotal remembrances: Damizza spends considerable time discussing the hows and whys of the songs that have topped the charts for more than a decade came to fruition, from the writing and recording to the sometimes uncomfortable and combative machinations of the record, radio and promotionalindustries and the egos that propel them.
While entire chapters are dedicated to Dre, Snoop, Mariah, Warren G., Eminem, Ludacris and Jay-Z, readers will be hard pressed to come up with a famous name that doesnotplay at least a passing role in "Guilty By Association." Axl Rose, Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Quincy Jones, Paris Hilton, Prince, Tobey McGuire, Tony Bennett, Hulk Hogan, Michael and Janet Jackson, Tommy Lee & Pamela Anderson, David Lee Roth, Harry Belafonte, Puffy, Jermaine Dupri, Nas, The Game, 50 Cent, Suge Knight, Tupac, Biggie … the list literally goes on for pages … a manic trip that finally pulls over at the side of the road for a little "breather" at the Betty Ford Center. "It's been — it continues to be — a mindblowing journey," Damizza says. "I really felt fans deserved to hear some of my first-hand accounts of how some of their favorite records came to be. Besides, it's been a while since my mailbox has been filled with cease-and-desist orders."

CRI$TYLE TALKS ABOUT MC IN AUSTRALIAN INTERVIEW The Australian hip-hop and R&B magazine Rhyme & Reason recently had the opportunity to chat with Cri$tyle 'The Ink' Johnson, the songwriter responsible for co-penning Mariah's smash hit "Touch My Body," along with several other cuts off E=MC² including; "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time," "Cruise Control," "Side Effects," and "Heat."
"Touch My Body" is a very playful song, and perhaps Mariah's most raunchy to date. Were there any apprehensions about taking that direction with the song?
Nah, Mariah loves to have fun and be sexy all at the same time. We laughed a lot during the writing process, so there wasn't any hesitation with writing that one.
I understand you have just hit the studio with Mariah once again to work on a remix. What can you tell us about the track?
We're working on a special project that I'm really excited about. I'm not really at liberty to talk about it right now, but Mariah fans are going to be in for a huge treat!
While you have forged a strong relationship with Mariah, there must be instances where you don't connect with your collaborator on a personal level. How does this affect the creative process?
Everytime I work with an artist, I try to become them for that moment. That way I can write the song as if I am that person, going through whatever they may be going through. So as far as the music is concerned, I channel the artist whether there is a connection or not. But it was a lot more fun workin' with MC because of the friendship that was developed. A lot more laughs than usual. [Laughing] (Mariah Daily Journal)

MARIAH CAREY'S TEEN CHOICE STYLE SWAG
What is going on with dude's face in the left corner? Anyway, Mariah performed at the Teen Choice Awards last night looking rather cute. I can't hate on the outfit, although I would really love to see her tone it down a little bit. I mean this outfit is for the likes of Rihanna. Mariah Carey? I am not so sure. I like the shoes though...

MARIAH CAREY LAUNCHES SUMMER KRUSH SERIESSurrounded by thousands of screaming fans, Mariah Carey helped launch the second annual Samsung AT&T Summer Krush last night (July 31) with a five-song set at the Hollywood & Highland Center in Los Angeles. Portions of Carey's brief concert appearance, which featured a guest appearance by rapper Young Jeezy for the song "Side Effects", were broadcast last night on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Other songs performed by the pop diva included a medley of "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time"/"Touch My Body", "I'm That Chick", "Shake It Off" and "We Belong Together."
Carey, whose upcoming tour is currently being routed, appeared last night in support of her newest album, "E=MC2", which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 in April, and has sold 1.1 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
As previously reported, Gavin Rossdale, LeAnn Rimes, Nelly and Nas are scheduled to appear in various cities across the United States as part of the Samsung AT&T Summer Krush, a free summer concert series designed to highlight Samsung's music-centric BlackJack II mobile phone.
Additionally, Smashing Pumpkins have been tapped to perform in Orlando, Fla., on Aug. 22 and Good Charlotte will appear in San Francisco on Sept. 16. A limited number of free tickets for the concerts will be available through radio promotions, artist fan clubs, street teams and online registration at samsungsummerkrush.com. Each show will feature music by Los Angeles-based DJ Matthew Sullivan.

MARIAH CAREY DOES IT FOR FREEMariah Carey wasn't happy with her fans Thursday night. No, not the 5,000 or so people who showed at the Hollywood and Highland mall in L.A. for Mimi's free concert, but the electric ones responsible for keeping her hair billowing throughout the gig. "My hair keeps sticking to my lipgloss," Carey said at the end of her first number. "You got to turn up the fans!"
Carey, who was performing as part of the Samsung AT&T Summer Krush concert series, also had something of a mic problem. "I want my mic stand," she said at one point. "I don't know what happened to my mic stand." A stagehand quickly popped onstage with a glittering, crystal-covered stand that matched her crystal-covered mic.
And what did she bring along for the fans - darn if we'll ever know. "I haven't forgotten to bring my bag of festivities," she said. "I'll be distributing those in a moment." She then walked offstage, but she returned empty-handed!
I'm told hubby Nick Cannon was there, but he stayed backstage. His family and friends were given VIP seats overlooking the stage. Which meant a few not-so-VIPs were booted from their chairs. "These seats," a security guard said, "are for Nick Cannon's family." A smidgen of the concert was also broadcast on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where she was a guest earlier in the evening.

MARIAH CAREY GETS EFFICIENT ON HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARDMariah Carey may now largely avoid the daring vocal acrobatics that marked the beginning of what would become one of the most successful music careers of the last two decades. Hitting the high notes, therefore, wasn't much of a concern Thursday night in Hollywood. Instead, the singer faced other challenges.
Chief among them: Can one of the most recognizable divas in the world emerge from what looked to be a giant plastic mascara box - one that's placed upon a stage in the middle of a shopping mall - with grace? And do so while ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" is coming back from a commercial break?
But Carey's every stride comes equipped with a happy elegance that would shame beauty pageants the world over. Indeed, while she was performing a free five-song mini-set at Hollywood & Highland's outdoor mall, which was taped for ABC's late-night show, Carey might as well have been on a moving parade float, as nary a verse or a chorus was sung without a wave, a nod or a wink to a fan.
That's not to say Thursday evening went off without a hitch. It was a little more than an hour before the 8:30 p.m. show time, and a crisis was brewing. A podium for photographers had been placed stage left, but this would fail to capture Carey's good side. It must, those working the show bustled, be moved to frame Carey's right side at once.
By the time Kimmel introduced Carey, everything was in its right place, and the singer offered a swift medley of current single "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" and "E=MC2's" runaway hit "Touch My Body". A few minutes later, the singer even stopped to let the crowd photograph her. "Let me pose," she said, asking the audience to shoot her "at the angle I prefer".
A crowd estimate wasn't available from on-site security, but earlier Kimmel's music booker, Scott Igoe, said about 1,000 people would be allowed on the ground floor and an additional 1,000-plus around the upper levels. Some, such as 21-year-old L.A.-resident Stephanie De La Cruz, had been there as early as 9 a.m., and she said she would have been there 24 hours before that had her mother let her.
What they witnessed was a brief but professional showing and an unbilled appearance from Southern rapper Young Jeezy. He joined Carey on "Side Effects", his gruff intonations providing a surprisingly effective counterbalance to Carey's pleasantly light phrasing.
Since her career rebirth with 2005's "The Emancipation of Mimi", Carey has abandoned the wild vocal wailing that gave rise to "American Idol" and has emerged a thinner-voiced, but far more efficient, singer. Check "I'm That Chick", where the lyrics are embarrassing drivel (Carey compares herself to ice cream), but she was able to somehow pull it off by letting her voice sway with the song's rhythmic R&B shuffle.
The concert was the latest from Kimmel's show to be performed out on the streets of Hollywood, which launched in 2003 with an appearance by Coldplay on Hollywood Boulevard. Although most Kimmel performances happen inside the studio across from the Hollywood & Highland complex, or on the outdoor stage behind the studio, that wasn't the original intention. "We had this grandiose idea when the show started that we'd be doing these concerts every Friday night on Hollywood Boulevard," Igoe said. "Then they saw the price tag. 'Oh, $250,000 every Friday night? Don't think so.' "
Now, the happenings are largely contingent on sponsors or record labels chipping in to defray costs, and Carey's performance was part of a national summer concert series from electronics company Samsung. Although Kimmel didn't have to close Hollywood Boulevard to have Carey perform, Igoe put the production costs as "probably about $250,000", noting that Carey doesn't come cheap. "There was a financial contribution Samsung had to make on top of the production to get her out here," he said.
To those who had spent their day getting sunburned waiting for Carey, it was money well spent. When a group of fans was asked why it was worth 12 hours of standing in the Los Angeles heat to see a five-song set, this reporter was booed by the crowd for suggesting such a negative question.
