MINX NAILS ARE HOT IN HOLLYWOOD Top celebrities including Beyoncé Knowles, Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera are among the Hollywood trendsetters spotted wearing Minx, the hottest new fashion in nails. But, there is more to Minx than a great look. An increasing number of natural salons and spas are also heralding Minx as a greener, more environmentally friendly alternative to nail polish.
Minx, unlike traditional nail polish, is made of flexible film and is applied and removed using only heat and pressure. There are no fumes, no drying time is required, and no chemicals such as nail polish remover are used. The Minx line is available in a wide variety of customized graphics and colors, but it is the gold and silver metallic line that is causing a lot of buzz in the fashion and beauty industry.
“Minx is a new and glamorous way to extend fashion to your very fingertips,” explains Naja Rickette, owner of Extremedys2012, a natural hand and foot spa in West Hollywood that focuses on environmentally-friendly products and services. “Customers who have been Minxed cannot believe the amount of attention they get,” says Naja, who applied Silver Lightning Minx to Mariah Carey’s nails while the singer was at the Bellagio in Las Vegas to film her new music video I Stay in Love. “The compliments are addictive, and Minx is perfect for people who love to stand out from the crowd,” concludes Naja.
On the east coast, New York celebrity manicurist Lisa Logan has applied a variety of Minx nail fashions to Beyoncé Knowles and also to her sister Solange. "Beyoncé loves the look of the silver and gold metallic Minx line, and wore them in her new Single Ladies video, as well as at the recent Bermuda Music Festival where her golden nails really popped on the screen," reveals Lisa. "But Solange is extremely adventurous, and loves to mix and match colors and designs. Her current favorites are chrome polka dots and a customized set of Minx nails that spell out ‘OBAMA’ on one hand, and have the presidential candidate's portrait on the other," says Lisa.
Christina Aguilera also wore Minx to the MTV Video Music Awards in September, with her chromed nails looking just as fabulous with her floor-length red carpet gown as they did on stage, complementing her slinky silver and black cat suit. Because Minx does not require nail polish remover and does not exude fumes, it was a healthy alternative for the new mom.
Other celebrities that have been spotted wearing Minx include Blake Lively, Victoria Beckham, and Angela and Vanessa Simmons. The new nail fashion was also featured on the cover of the August Italian Vogue beauty supplement.

MC DOESN'T BELIEVE IN TRAVELING LIGHTNew York, October 13 (ANI): Mariah Carey has lived up to the celebrity reputation of never travelling light.
The singer, who married actor and rapper Nick Cannon earlier this year, flew to Vegas in her chartered Gulfstream, while her excess baggage followed in another flight, reports the New York Post.
The 39-year-old, who headed to the venue to host a party at Vegas The Bank nightclub, had so much luggage that two members of her entourage had to trail on Southwest Airlines, as her private jet could not accommodate her bags.
After winning critical claims for her outstanding performance in Tennessee, Mariah was approached by director Lee Daniel for the upcoming movie Push.

MICHELLE OBAMA LISTENS TO CLASSIC MARIAH TUNES Michelle Obama Keeps It Real. In an interview with Marie Claire, the chic, shoot-from-the-hip newcomer talks about her critics, her life in the media whirl, Wal-Mart vs. Target... and the music she listens to.
Marie Claire: So, what's on your iPod?
Michelle Obama: I have a pretty eclectic mix of everything, from Beyonce to Stevie Wonder. He's my favorite artist of all time, so I probably have every song he's ever recorded. But if I hear something I like somewhere, I'll add it. I just heard this CD by Anthony David, who's an R&B guy - I put him on there. That's brand new, so I'm kind of enjoying that a lot now. I also have some old Mariah Carey; the girls have reintroduced me to some of her older stuff. So I have a good mix: some pop, some R&B, some jazz.

MC HELPS NICK CELEBRATE HIS BIRTHDAY His birthday wasn't until Wednesday, but Nick Cannon got the party started early with a sweet surprise from wife Mariah Carey.
The actor – who Deejayed during his bash Tuesday night at Pure Nightclub in Las Vegas – took time to give a "shout out to my beautiful wife in the building."
Carey held court at a VIP table next to Cannon's deejay booth, where the soon-to-be 28-year-old spun rock and hip hop for nearly three hours.
Later, she arranged for a birthday cake to be brought out for her husband-of-five-months. "Thank you, my love," he said into the microphone. "We about to take this to the next level!"
The two have staying at the Bellagio since Saturday, when they arrived in Vegas to shoot Carey's new music video. (Cannon directed the clip for her single, "I Stay in Love.")
Tuesday night kicked off with a private dinner at Rao's, where Cannon and Carey noshed on lemon chicken and meatballs. "They were very sweet with each other," said a source. Nick, inspired by the Italian cuisine, also boasted that he makes "a great clam sauce."

MC & NICK BREAK THE BANK International pop icon Mariah Carey hosted a special evening at The Bank Nightclub (client interest) at Bellagio last night (10/4). The sexiest nightlife destination in all of Sin City, The Bank will also serve as backdrop for Carey’s latest music video, “I Stay in Love” as her husband Nick Cannon directs the epic today.
With a welcome worthy of a true diva, Mariah Carey arrived last night hand-in-hand with Nick Cannon to hundreds of screaming fans. As Carey made her way onto the red carpet, the screeching crowd reached a feverish pitch with fans jumping on slot machines to catch a better glimpse. After posing for the dozens of paparazzi shooters and a horde of onlookers, Carey headed into The Bank to host the evening, again hand-in-hand with her man. As Carey made her entrance into the posh club, the packed house erupted.
Prior to The Bank, Mariah and hubby Nick enjoyed a sensational dinner at Yellowtail Sushi Restaurant & Bar. The couple was joined by six of their friends and were seated at a window-side table overlooking the iconic Bellagio fountains. While Carey, sipping Pinot Grigio, chose to dine only on miso soup (sans tofu) along with tuna sashimi, Cannon and friends experienced the innovative dishes by award winning executive chef Akira Back such as the Popping Spicy Crab Rolls (an imaginative twist on the traditional Japanese dish – a dynamic layer of Pop Rocks candy is added to the roll to ignite your taste buds!) Back personally welcomed Carey to Yellowtail Sushi Restaurant & Bar and after briefly posing for a few photos, Carey recalled actually meeting Back before when he prepared her meal while he was executive chef at Nobu in Aspen, prior to his joining The Light Group to open Yellowtail Sushi Restaurant & Bar.

MARIAH & NICK IT'S BABY TIME First came marriage -- and now comes the baby carriage for Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon...
Mariah Carey's biggest fan was on hand as the 39-year-old pop diva performed at the 15th CLSA Investors' Forum in Hong Kong on Sept. 25. "She was with her husband, Nick Cannon, and they were laughing, kissing, holding hands," says an onlooker, who caught the couple arriving at the airport. "You could tell they were newlyweds."
The onlooker couldn't help but notice something else, too: "Mariah looked great, but she seemed to have put on a few pounds. Maybe she's pregnant -- or at least planning on it!"
A friend of Mariah's says the star and Nick are definitely trying: "They've been trying their travels, and Mariah has seen her ob-gyn several times recently in California, and not just for checkups. She's talking to her doctor about pregnancy and what to expect."
Getting in mommy mode
One thing Mariah would have to change in her frenetic work schedule. She has several private appearances (similar to the one in Hong Kong) scheduled through the remainder of 2008. "She's been performing a lot lately," says the friend. "When you think about it, she hasn't been in one place for more than five days pretty much since she and Nick got married in April."
Of course, Mariah would be willing to give up all the hopping around to have a baby with Nick, says the friend. "Mariah's spent her whole life cranking out hits and working her butt off to be a top performer and singer," points out the pal. "She put aside the whole family idea -- there was never time. But things have changed; she's so in love with Nick and knows he'll be a terrific father."
Mariah didn't necessarily feel that way with her previous partners. "After her divorce from music executive Tommy Mottola in 1998, she focused on rebuilding her career without him," continues the pal. "She wasn't ready to have kids with him, nor did she want to. She was focused on work 100 percent."
Mariah also immersed herself in her career when she was dating manager-producer Mark Sudack from 2004 to 2008. "Mariah never even considered having kids with him," adds the insider. "And they were together for a long time and apparently in love."
But Mariah changed her tune when she married Nick, who, says the pal, would make a great stay-at-home dad. When Life & Style asked Mariah in May when she and Nick planned on starting a family -- and how many kids they wanted to have -- she responded, "Ha! I couldn't say anything for sure just yet, only that it's in the cards."
But she may be pregnant already, believes one Mariah insider. "She's acting differently lately," says the insider. "She went overseas, where it's easier to hide and not be seen, if indeed she's starting to show. She definitely looks different. Everyone thinks she looks pregnant. So I'm willing to say that she is!"
Still, a close friend of Nick's isn't convinced yet.
"She's not pregnant, but she and Nick are trying," the friend says. "Mariah really wants a baby, and so does Nick. So it's on the agenda for them. It's just a matter of time."
A New Year's baby?
If she's not yet expecting, Mariah hopes to get pregnant by the beginning of next year, believes the pal. "Her schedule will calm down, and she's planning on going to Aspen and St. Bart's to relax over Christmas," the pal says. "Mariah is a changed person ever since she met Nick. She has different priorities, like having a family. She's only wanted a family with someone who'd be head over heels for kids -- and she's found him in Nick."

IS MARRIAGE COSTING MARIAH CAREY SERIOUS MONEY? Mariah Carey’s first single from E=MC² was a smash, but two follow-ups—released after her marriage to Nick Cannon—bombed. Is marriage costing her? —Estian, Cape Town
No. It’s your tiny, tiny attention span. It’s ruining everything. That’s why “Bye Bye” only peaked at 19. It was all you. “This year, it’s been harder for big superstars to keep the spotlight shining on them after the run-up to their album is over,” Idolator editor Maura Johnston tells me.
“Look at the way singles by Usher and Madonna have performed—you’ll see a similar pattern,” Johnston says. Usher’s “Love in This Club” went to No. 1, but its follow-up single, “Moving Mountains,” peaked at No. 67. As for Madonna, “4 Minutes” peaked at No. 3, while “Give It to Me” only reached No. 57. I hope you’re pleased with yourself.

WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU MARIAH CAREYAs a founding member of the genre dubbed (by the press) “indie rap,” Minneapolis duo Atmosphere has always had a special place in critics’ hearts. But with the release of their latest album, When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold, they can claim a piece of the general public’s as well. The CD debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 upon its release, exceeding everyone’s expectations.
“It leads me to believe that our fans decided not to download the record this time, so really they kind of get all the credit for that,” Atmosphere’s MC, Slug, reflects by phone. He adds, with his characteristic humor: “Also, many times those first-week numbers reflect who’s more popular than who that week. But if you look at the other records that came out that week, we weren’t really competing with anybody. Mariah Carey had the number one spot. And I refuse to believe that anywhere in the world was there some kid in a record store holding a copy of the Mariah Carey album and holding a copy of the Atmosphere album and asking themselves which one they’re going to buy.”
The group has had busy months since Lemons came out, protesting the hometown-held Republican National Convention via a giant concert that also included Tom Morello, Billy Bragg, Steve Earle, and others, and touring like crazy. Slug says the duo’s fans have responded well in concert to Lemons tracks, which tend to be more esoteric and less personal than Atmosphere’s previous songs. “It’s such mad-scientist work, you know? You’re learning how to put your chemicals and equations together in order to get that elixir. I’ve been seeing how people respond to hearing ‘Puppets’ early in the set as opposed to late in the set, or how they responded to hearing ‘In Her Music Box’ at the end of the set as opposed to the beginning.”
Slug adds that he and producer Ant are readying a new project for release, perhaps sometime in the coming months. “It’s not really a real album; it’s a record that was made as an exercise to making Lemons, much like [the free Internet release] Strictly Leakage. I might just release it for free online again. It’s like Strictly Leakage but it’s more serious. Strictly Leakage was a fun album, but this one will get its polish on.” One presumes that’s how Mariah Carey would do things.
