BUTTERFLY WORLD TOURIn the spring 1998, Mariah Carey launched the Butterfly World Tour. The first stops took place at the legendary Tokyo Dome in Japan; Carey managed to repeat the success achieved during the Daydream World Tour, selling out in a few hours. In Japan, Mariah performed “Babydoll” instead of “The Roof,” “Breakdown,” “Whenever You Call,” and “Without You.
In February, Mariah visited Australia, starting in Brisbane and Perl. In Melbourne, Mariah was joined onstage by Olivia Newton-John to perform “Hopelessly Devoted to You.” Carey initially planned to include more dates in the United States; however, she cancelled these plans when she found out she was due to start filming “Double O Soul” with Chris Tucker.
